Man Utd´s Bruno Fernandes apologises for penalty miss in shock Premier League loss

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes issued an apology following his injury-time penalty miss in the shock Premier League defeat to Aston Villa, promising to bounce back amid the club s poor run of form.

United were upstaged 1-0 by visiting Villa at Old Trafford on Saturday after Fernandes blazed a last-gasp spot-kick over the crossbar.

Villa s Kortney Hause looked to have gone from hero to zero when he followed an 88th-minute headed goal at one end with a handball at the other five minutes later.

However, Fernandes – taking the penalty ahead of superstar team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo – fired over the crossbar as United suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season and third loss in four games across all competitions.

Man United interested in Dani Olmo

Manchester United have signed Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, while they remain the firm candidates to lure Harry Maguire from Leicester to Old Trafford. But those deals are not the only ones Man United have been working on.

At least that is according to Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti, who claim the Devils are putting together a bid for Spain U21 star Dani Olmo after he put in some stellar performance at the recent European Championships. After spending seven years in the Barcelona youth sector, the winger moved to Dinamo Zagreb in all the way back in 2014, where he has collected four league titles and lifted three Croatian cup trophies.

The report from Croatia suggests Man United will have a big competition, most notably in Bayer Leverkusen who are said to ha…

Cisse hoping to be a pioneer for black and African coaches

Aliou Cisse is hoping the memory of Bruno Metsu can inspire his Senegal players at the World Cup and cement his own status as a pioneer for a new breed of black coaches.

Cisse, the only black coach at the World Cup in Russia, was the captain under shaggy-haired Frenchman Metsu as Senegal reached the quarter-finals in 2002 on their maiden appearance on the global stage.

And, after paying tribute to Metsu, who died aged 59 in 2013, Cisse is hoping to become a positive influence for change.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday s clash with Poland in Moscow, the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder said: It s true I m the only black coach in this World Cup, but really these are debates that disturb me.

Football is a universal sport and the colour of your skin is of …

Klopp happy at Liverpool but won´t rule out succeeding Low as Germany coach

Jurgen Klopp insists he is happy at Liverpool for now but could not rule out the possibility of succeeding Joachim Low as Germany coach in 2022.

Klopp has overseen a significant improvement since taking over at Anfield in 2015, turning the Reds into a real force both domestically and in Europe.

Under Klopp, Liverpool have reached three major European finals and won the 2018-19 Champions League, following that up with UEFA Super Cup success.

Although they missed out in the Premier League title last term, finishing just a point behind Manchester City, a stunning start to the new campaign has them eight clear of Pep Guardiola s men after eight matches.

PSG gamble on Emery in Champions League quest

Laurent Blanc s inability to fulfil Paris Saint-Germain s Champions League ambitions has prompted the club to take a gamble on Europa League mastermind Unai Emery.

Each of PSG s three campaigns under Blanc in UEFA s premier competition ended in the quarter-finals, at the hands of Chelsea in 2013-14, Barcelona a season later and Manchester City last term.

That meant Blanc s tenure did not satisfy PSG s demanding Qatari owners, who completed their takeover in May 2011, despite the head coach guiding the club to three Ligue 1 titles in succession and back-to-back domestic trebles, posting a win rate of 72.8 per cent – the highest in the club s history.

A lack of availability among Europe s small group of elite coaches has forced the hand of president Nasser Al-Kh…

Former Germany striker Kuranyi announces retirement

Former Germany international Kevin Kuranyi has announced his retirement from professional football.

Brazilian-born Kuranyi won 52 caps for Germany, making a substitute appearance in the Euro 2008 final, which Die Mannschaft lost 1-0 to Spain.

He joined Stuttgart as a teenager and signed a professional contract with the club in 2001, going on to score 56 goals in 131 appearances for Die Roten, form that earned him a move to Schalke in 2005.

Kuranyi is the fourth-highest goalscorer in Schalke s history, having found the net 90 times in 217 appearances.

After enjoying a prolific spell in Russia with Dynamo Moscow where he netted 56 goals in 151 games Kuranyi joined Hoffenheim on a one-year-deal but did not find the net and has since been a free agent.

Everton cut their losses on Mirallas as Belgian joins Royal Antwerp

Kevin Mirallas has brought his seven-year stay at Everton to an end by joining Royal Antwerp on a free transfer.

Mirallas, who has signed a one-year deal with the Belgian side, joined Everton in 2012 and went on to score 38 goals in 186 appearances.

However, after some excellent seasons between 2012 and 2016, the attacker struggled to cement himself in Ronald Koeman s side, though he still signed a new deal with the club in May 2017.

Mirallas final competitive appearance for Everton came in the Europa League in December 2017, with the forward joining former club Olympiacos on loan for the second half of the season.

Arsenal 3 West Ham 1: Emery´s men battle back for maiden triumph

Unai Emery claimed his first win in charge of Arsenal as Issa Diop s own goal and a stoppage-time Danny Welbeck strike secured a 3-1 Premier League victory over West Ham at Emirates Stadium.

Marko Arnautovic gave the visitors a 25th-minute lead, with Nacho Monreal restoring parity five minutes later.

An entertaining and error-strewn contest continued to flow from end to end but an injury to Arnautovic robbed West Ham of their prime attacking threat before Diop erred.

Welbeck came off the bench to gleefully blast in from close range, ensuring Manuel Pellegrini s fledgling West Ham tenure stands at three defeats out of three.

Arnautovic asked constant questions of Arsenal s high and shaky backline and had already thrashed into the side netting before he exc…
