The Colts got a generational quarterback, put an offensive line made of cheesecloth in front of him, kept starting him after his throwing shoulder started to fall apart, shot him up with painkillers to make sure he could keep throwing and keep getting hit, and now wonder why his arm is so wrecked. All of which is to set up this inevitability: Here comes Jim Irsay to somehow make things worse! Luck has been shut down for the season—he won’t play until 2018 at the earliest, for an injury he suffered in 2015—and everyone’s looking for someone to blame. Would you believe that the Colts owner is blaming Luck? Yeah, you’d believe it. Former coach Tony Dungy appeared on and let slip something he might not have intended. Local reporter Bob Kravitz said this occurred when Dungy thou…
Some people are fans of the Chicago Bears. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the Chicago Bears. This 2019 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read all the previews so far here. Your team: Doinkity-doink-doink! Your 2018 record: DOINK AND DOINK. Our DOINK, who art in DOINK, hallowed be thy DOINK-DOINK… “Oh he hits the upright AGAIN! That’s impossible!” My dear Al, it IS possible. It is indeed possible for a formerly woebegone team to hire a future Coach of the Year winner, trade for Khalil Mack, barnstorm their way to a division title, and see a blinding, dazzling future suddenly appear before them … only to watch that future double-doink its way right down the wishing well. Imagine having your window of opportunity burst open and then cru…
Just before halftime in today’s Bengals-Jaguars game, Jacksonville cornerback Jalen Ramsey gave A.J. Green a little shove at the end of a play. The Bengals receiver absolutely lost it. Green put the Ramsey in a chokehold and tossed him before unwisely throwing punches at the Jaguars defender’s helmeted head. Both teams’ players got involved to break up the one-sided fight. Both players were ejected, making the prospect of watching Bengals-Jaguars even more unappealing. …
Vodka Samm stumbled and slurred her way into our hearts back in September. She tried to jump on the field during a University of Iowa football game, was snagged by police before she could get there, had a .341 blood-alcohol content, and unashamedly boasted about it all on Twitter. Vodka Samm showed us how to do college if we had to do it all over again. So is Vodka Samm worthy of the Deadspin Hall of Fame? Up to you. Cast your vote by 11:59 p.m. (EST) Sunday night. Some people are fans of the New York Jets. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the New York Jets. This 2012 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read the other Why Your Team Sucks 2012 previews here. 1. Behold the terrifying visage of the Sanchbow. Whenever I think of the Jets' quarterback situation, I remember the old quote from Dennis Miller (back when Dennis Miller was funny): "Hey folks, two of shit is SHIT. If they really wanna fuck you, they'll give you three of these things." If you woke up a coma patient who had been asleep for the past four years, plunked him down in front of the TV, and had him watch footage of Mark Sanchez, this would be the ensuing conversation: COMA GUY: Hey, he looks OK for a rookie. YOU: No, no. This is …
If there are any athletes out there who want to get a domestic disturbance incident in before the end of the year—save it. The store is closed. But two playoff-bound fathers did manage to sneak something in under the wire. Atlanta's Michael Turner did not get arrested, but cops were called to his house Monday night after an "incident" with his mother's child. No harm, no foul, I guess. Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald, on the other hand, is on the wrong of a restraining order after allegedly shoving his mother's child around back in October. Note: No horseplay around Larry Fitzgerald. So there you go. A little something to cheer you up on this last day of this cold, cold year. We suggest you find a nice, modestly price bottle of champagne and then bash yoursel…
data-mm-id=”_l9f70xc23″>LeBron James has finally weighed in on the death of Kobe Bryant's and his daughter Gianna. The Lakers superstar waited a day to get his thoughts together but posted a passionate, loving tribute to the ban he referred to as "big bro." Here's what he had to say: View this post on Instagram I’m Not Ready but here I go. Man I sitting here trying to write something for this post but every time I try I begin crying again just thinking about you, niece Gigi and the friendship/bond/brotherhood we had! I literally just heard your voice Sunday morning before I left Philly to head back to LA. Didn’t think for one bit in a million years that would be the last conversation we’d have. WTF!! I’m heartbroken and devastated my brothe…
data-mm-id=”_n1svockyz”>O.J. Howard is reportedly on the trade block and, if that's the case, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots should find a way to land him. The Athletic's Michael Lombardi took to his podcast on Wednesday and claimed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would look to move Howard either leading up to or during the 2020 NFL Draft. If the Bucs have given up on their young tight end, the Patriots need to see if they can snag him.In 2019, the Patriots had arguably the worst tight end rotation in the NFL. Ben Watson, Matt LaCosse, Ryan Izzo and Eric Tomlinson combined to catch 37 passes for 419 yards and two touchdowns. The position was a mess, especially after years of the offense relying on big-time production out of its tight ends. Howard hasn't lived up to…
data-mm-id=”_wtx76ub46″>The Sopranos is officially of a time. While many people watched the legendary and contemporary television show, it bears little resemblance to modern times. There were no smart phones or social media. At this point it's basically a period drama. Yet it is still relevant, popular and beloved, just like Green Day's seminal album, Dookie, which we just learned that James Gandolfini freaking loved via Instagram comments from Michael Imperioli. data-mm-id=”_l35nuzkjs”>Stephen A. Smith is a showman at heart, and he's at his best when given the floor to speak freely upon topics he's truly passionate about, as opposed to subjects he's passionate about for the sake of the debate. It's a fine line that can be hard to identify at times, but it's one of those things where you know it when you see it. Such an example came about on Tuesday's iteration of First Take. The crew was tasked with discussing Kyrie Irving's statement made during the Brooklyn Nets' opening media day late last week, in which he implied he would not speak to the media throughout this season. Smith acknowledged that while Irving shouldn't be forced to speak to reporters, he did sign a contract and agreed to media avail…
